Royal Palace in Phnom Penh

The new structure on Sisowath Quay.

This is an impressive compound, the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh encloses a couple of buildings in traditional Khmer style. It is mainly for representative purpose and to show the tourists some great architecture.

Definitely one of the highlights of any visit to the country, it's a unique experience and ideal for a day trip. Just behind the Tonle Sap Riverfront and very close to the National Museum and the University of Art plus plenty of creative shops showing old Khmer artifacts are at the same location. Further to the east is Sisowath Quay the center of the city with a waterfront along the Tonle Sap River and Lake with a lively scene day and night.

Visiting the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh
The royal Cambodian palace long time ago built during colonial times

Throne Hall with some Angkorian style elements
Throne Hall Detail
I just was wondering why they kept the place in a strong yellow light, maybe to emphasize the golden color elements, anyway a exotic hall in style. Maybe they can give a suitable chair to the guardian the white plastic stuff doesn't fit.

The king is seen here very rarely the place is only used for some official state occasions. The whole area integrates large green landscaping elements it is not so commercialized as at Sanam Luang in Bangkok opposite the National Museum where one can even feel all is done to free the tourists from their money.
The new Royal Palace seen from Sisowath Quay along the Tonle Sap is an impressive construction with some French elements in it and a very clear Khmer design.

Khmer world of that time

Khmer world of that time during past history the Khmer ruled large parts of SEA down to today Malaysia to the east partly to Myanmar and Vietnam plus up to China. That's all gone, what I personally like compared to Thai and Chinese is that they are not as prone to greed as the others are, read more.

At the other side of the road

Very close is the National Museum which is not as richly stocked  as similar places elsewhere in the world that has it's reason in looting the country over centuries.

Even today precious Khmer antiques can be found for sale in Singapore and London. Actually because the country is still quite poor artifacts still find the way out and people make huge profits with it.
